Hello everyone!!! I’ve got it done!!! My February jacket!!!
Uhm hum…. I’m seeing that I missed my R in February in my drawing below….shame shame shame(blush)
I can spell, really I can!!!! hahaha
Some of you may have seen my illustration already!! I wanted to design it as an illustration and then make my pattern and sew it up and I did!!! I’m excited about this because it is so cool to be able to do this!!! Take a drawing and make it come to life, very exciting!!! This is my first time going from illustration to finished product! So did I tell you that this is exciting!!!?? Well it is!!!!
I changed it a bit to suit what I had available to me as fabric, this is what it looked like before
You can see from the picture above that I added a belt in the back and instead of the black front, I opted for a red front and black trim since I had more red fabric than black.
Below is my pattern which I draped right on my dress form. I used some old magazine pages taped together to make some of the pieces and then cut it out of some old lining.
I marked my order of fabric on my pattern to make it easier to remember what color fabric goes where.
Changed my mind after the pattern was done when I realized that I wouldn’t have enough black fabric for the whole jacket
I traced out my heart on the back. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to insert the heart directly in the jacket or appliqué the heart on top. I decided appliquéing it on top would be by far easier for this time, maybe next time I’ll try my hand at inserting a shape. Lots of fancy sewing to do that!!
Stitching it up
I used eyelash yarn to go around the heart on the back of the jacket. The heart was first appliquéd with thread and then the yarn was applied by machine using a zigzag stitch across the yarn.
I think I need a manicure! :)
The pieces ready to be sewed
I decided to use this black and white print fabric that I had left over from my bedspread that I made for the front, sleeve and neck bindings. I’m glad I did because I think it looks better than just a plain black.
Matthew 5:8
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Psalm 34:18
The LORD is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Deciding where to put the pockets. Note to self: Don’t wait until the jacket is almost done to make the pockets!!! Hard work!!! lol
I lined the inside of the jacket with a thin lining as the outer fabric is warm enough. I found the fabric at a used clothing store. I didn’t have quite enough of it and so I found a remnant of the black velvety fabric that I had on hand and added it in. I think it gives the lining interest.
Close up of the neck and front, 100% cotton binding, left over from my bedspread, cut on the bias (that’s cut from corner to corner so it will stretch for you non-sewers)
This is my slanted double welt pocket With a flap!!! I searched the internet trying to find something like this to look at but I couldn’t find one and so I figured it out on my own! Maybe I should make a tutorial!
I added a silver zipper. See that jacket, perfect match for my bed!! Gosh, I’m so sickening with my matchy matchy!! hahaha
Close up zipper, Sorry about the stray thread!!
Front princess seam and arm seams.
Neck shape
Back belt
back jacket and under sleeve joining
Sleeve hem
The finished queen of hearts jacket!!
Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart
And Jesus said
Mark 12:33 to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
note: burnt offerings and sacrifices were done in the old testament to be forgiven from sins and to worship God, thank God that is over!!Psalm 19:14
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer
awwwww look at these shoes?? How cute they would be with my jacket….or a new dress queen of hearts style!….I suppose I could paint some black shoes and add a piece of white lace and a red ribbon, that would work!!! ;)
Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart
Alice in wonderland and the queen of hearts
Romans 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved
Psalm 9:1
I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.
Psalm 26:2
Test me, O LORD, and try me, examine my heart and my mind
Psalm 24:4
He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false
My cats are always in my pictures somewhere :) This is Kalie
I put my hair up so you could see the theatrical effect of the collar, which for me is the best part of the jacket.
Brrrrr too cold to stay outside for pics!! Snows starting to come down!
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus
Psalm 73:26
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever
.Proverbs 23:26
My child, give me your heart and let your eyes keep to my ways.
Psalm 51:10
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
This scripture was made into a song and I have to sing it…
”Caste me not away, from thy presence oh God…Take not thy holy spirit from me…restore unto me the joy of my salvation, and renew a right spirit within me.”
“And yes there is joy in salvation, and if you are not experiencing it then you are doing it wrong! Go back to the beginning of your journey with God and remember what it was like those of you who know the Lord! Remember how beautiful, how special, how it brought you to a high above anything you could ever imagine, even in your worse times. Remember what He did for you? Remember where you were and where He brought you. Remember His love for you…How He died to free you of all kinds of things… Remember how beautiful his grace was when you came to realize what it meant and that you could rest in it? How you didn’t have to do anything but accept it…Remember His power… Remember how He held your hand and wrapped His fatherly arms around you and held you and never left your side and you never left His… Remember this!! Oh such bliss!!! Never forget your first love with the Lord!!! His heart is the best!!!”
Proverbs 4:23
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life
-
Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also
That’s it guys, my new February jacket! I think I need a hat and mitts to go with it… what do you think? Yes? That would take care of my left over fabric… :)
My favourite heart scripture
Jesus Anointed by a Sinful Woman
36 One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to have dinner with him, so Jesus went to his home and sat down to eat.[a]37 When a certain immoral woman from that city heard he was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume. 38 Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them.
*Pharisees were teachers of the law who made people follow the law when they themselves did not! They were also very judgmental. Do you know any Pharisees and do you have any Pharasitical ways?
